Ancient Times and the Uses of Vulcanizing Agent

The Vulcainus was a ship in the first century CE, commissioned by the ruler of Troy. It was originally constructed out of Trojan Stone, a type of limestone from Greece. The area around the Mediterranean Sea was known as the Troodos mountains. This area had been fortified by the Troodos inhabitants and when the Trojan War broke out, the residents of Troy allied with the Greeks against the Trojans. Consequently, the Trojans used the mountains to build their impenetrable wall.

During the Trojan War, the Trojans would also use the mountains as a defensive mechanism. At the time, however, Troy was without water, and so they depended on the mountains to help them fight off their enemies. It is here in the mountains that you will find the archaeological remains of the Troy civilization, including the Erectheion (a.k.a. Ancient Roman Palace) and the Aigialeum (ancient palace built on an island south of mainland Greece). The city state of Troy possessed the most fertile plain in the Mediterranean and was a center for the construction of sophisticated aqueduct systems.

The city state of Troy finally got tired of fighting and declared itself a slave of the Persian Empire. In Persian fashion, this was a good thing, for the Trojans were not a race of conquerors, but rather crafty people, who could always rebuild their city on a new foundation. Accordingly, in Troy the residents erected the Pylos stone structure (the modern day Pylos street), on the highest point of the hill. Nearby, on the hill itself, were two temples dedicated to the goddess Tritesh, the embodiment of the sky and the sun. This was the beginning of Troy's alliance with Persia.

When the city of Troy finally aligned itself with Persia, the razing of the Temple of Artemis began. In ancient Greek legend, Aphrodite -the goddess of love, war and sex, was angry that her lover, Apollo, had abandoned her and took his place in heaven. She ordered a huge boulder to be thrown at Apollo's temple, which caused it to crash down onto the beach atoned for his sins. This event marked the first ever attack on the Greek city by the Persians. They swept through the once proud city and cut down its greatest heroes, while Aphrodite herself escaped to a mountain fortress. When she did not appear in person for three centuries, it was assumed that she had died.
